Visa Photo & PDF Resizer: Resize to the Exact KB, DPI and Size

A client-side formatter that frames and resizes a portrait, or re-encodes any image or document, to a visa or government portal's exact requirements (pixel size, DPI, a strict KB band and format) without uploading your file.

Framed by the face, not the middle of the photo

For the portrait presets it finds the face, shows seven points you can drag, and crops so the head height and eye line fall inside the bands the portal sets. The same checks as the Passport & Visa Photo Checker then report head pose, background and lighting. If the photo has no room for the framing, it says so instead of adding blank bars. Switch “Frame by face” off, or choose a document preset, for a plain centre crop or pad.

How it hits an exact size

It binary-searches JPEG quality (up to 12 iterations) to land under the KB ceiling at the highest quality possible, then reports the SSIM so you can see how much fidelity was kept. The DPI is written straight into the JFIF header with no resample, so pixels aren't distorted.

Frequently asked questions

Why does an upload fail with 'file too large' when it looks fine?
Portals often enforce a size band (say 10–200 KB) plus exact pixel dimensions, a specific DPI and one accepted format. Compressing until the file is small enough usually breaks one of the others. This tool solves for all of them together.
Which portals are covered?
Presets for Schengen visas, US government portals, Indian government portals and e-Courts, plus a custom mode where you enter the requirements a portal published.
Does it crop to the face or just the middle of the photo?
For the portrait presets it finds the face and frames the crop so the head height and eye line sit inside the bands the portal sets, with seven points you can drag to correct it. It also reports head pose, background and lighting, like the Passport & Visa Photo Checker. If the photo leaves no room for the framing it says so instead of adding blank bars. Turn Frame by face off for a plain centre crop.
Can I set the DPI without changing the pixel size?
Yes. DPI is metadata in the file header, so it can be set to the value a portal demands while the pixel size stays as required. Many portals read that value and reject anything else.
How does it hit an exact file-size range?
The tool searches the encoder's quality setting for a value whose output lands inside the band, instead of compressing once and hoping. Dimensions and DPI stay fixed during the search.
Is my identity document uploaded for conversion?
No. Resizing and re-encoding happen in your browser. Passport pages and ID photos are exactly the files you should not send to a conversion website.
What formats can I feed it?
JPG, PNG and WEBP directly, plus HEIC/HEIF and TIFF, which are decoded in your browser with WASM and JavaScript decoders.
Is the PDF real PDF/A?
Not strictly. The PDF is PDF/A-2b-oriented (correct geometry and XMP) but embeds no ICC OutputIntent, so it won't pass strict veraPDF validation. Treat it as best-effort.
Why couldn't the size band be met?
A KB floor can be impossible at small dimensions. Increase the dimensions or relax the minimum, then process again.
